  UCF Rainfall Analysis

The rainfall analysis and rainfall analysis software was produced as funded projects by the Southwest Florida Water management district and the United States Geologic Survey by the Stormwater Management Institute at University of Central Florida. They are provided here as a service to engineers and technicians needing the results of this analysis.

  • List of Sites - Analysis Results - This page contains all sites with links to the full analysis of each site. Quality control information, site results, and distribution results are all included.

Return Period Analysis Results

 

For each return period listed a table of the predicted maximum for each duration is shown. The predicted maximum is the value that is determined by (1) fitting the annual actual maxima to a distribution, and (2) fitting these distribution results to a linear regression model. The raw maxima and curve fit parameters are shown in the analysis results for each site in the List of Sites - Analysis Results.

Kriging Analysis Results  

 

  • Kriging Analysis Results - The full rainfall distribution results were fit to state isohyetal plots using standard kriging techniques. Each of the results for all analyzed durations and return periods are included here. To access the full folder click here StandardKriging 
  • Nugget Kriging (1) -  As part of the peer review process Nugget Kriging was a recommendation to smooth the curves. In standard kriging, iso lines are forced to go through all geographic points at the actual value of the point. This causes a tent post effect. In the case of rainfall data, these values do have a natural variance. An error variance of 0.5 and a micro variance on 0.5 was used in the kriging analysis utilizing a second variogram specifying these effects. The result of the smoothed variograms are in the linked folders. A full explanation of the analysis is included on the page - Correcting for Rainfall Iso Variance Using the Nugget Effect.
